Distinguished Chapter member retires

Please join us in extending a warm farewell to Sharon Schwerzel, who is retiring from FSU after 25 years as Head of the Dirac Science Library.

Sharon is an alumnus of FSU, receiving her BS and then her MS in Science Education in 1965 and 1967, respectively. She earned an M.L.S. from San Jose State University in California. Before returning to FSU in 1986, Sharon was a reference librarian at Ohio State University’s Health Sciences Library, followed by service as Head of Reference at the Florida Institute of Technology Library.

In addition to her leadership and many contributions at FSU, Sharon has been active in the Special Libraries Association and the Florida and Caribbean Chapter of SLA. Sharon received the SLA Florida and Caribbean Chapter’s Hall of Fame Award for 2008 for an extended and sustained period of distinguished service to the Chapter in all spheres of its activities. Sharon leaves a legacy of strong science collections, and has made important contributions to many initiatives, ranging from the development of a Disaster Plan for the University Libraries to digitization of the Dirac Papers.

In 2009, she was interviewed for the Chapter website. Please click on the link below to view it.
