Applications now accepted for 2013-14 Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute

The Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute’s application process is now open. This is a program offered by the Florida Department of State’s Division of Library & Information Services.

The Chapter counts some alumni as participants and mentors and their experiences have been generally positive. It’s open to individuals from all types of libraries (public, academic, school, and special).

The primary goal of the Institute is to assist in preparing library leaders to provide the highest quality library services to the citizens of Florida in the most effective and innovative manner that will meet today’s needs and tomorrow’s challenges.

The Institute objectives are to:

  • develop diverse leaders who can serve in library leadership roles at local, regional, state, and national levels;
  • retain staff currently working in the library and information management profession by reenergizing and developing new leadership skills;
  • develop leaders who will have the skills to replace those who will retire from the library and information management profession;
  • build collaborative networks within the library community across the state that are sustained over time; and
  • establish professional support systems using recognized leaders as mentors.
