A Reception in honor of Library and Information Science Students

A reception was held the evening before our fall Workshop, in honor of the Library and Information Science students at the University of South Florida. All students were invited, as were all Florida and Caribbean Chapter members.

Chapter President Doris Jui introduced attendees to the opportunities of special librarians and mentioned the upcoming SLA Leadership Summit. Then several Chapter members spoke about their experience in careers as librarians, covering several different fields from special librarianship to academic to being a sales rep. Phebe Poydras talked about her path to being a Law Librarian. Theresa Burress talked about her different experiences being an academic librarian and a special librarian at a Geological Survey facility, and in a law firm. Alice Primack talked about academic librarianship at small branch libraries and in a large academic library. Robyn Tolle talked about being a librarian and also a Sales Representative for Lexis-Nexis. Alice Primack described the SLA Student Mentoring Program and invited students who are members of SLA to complete an application for a mentor. Liz Bumgarner finished the program by telling students about the advantages of SLA membership and inviting them to join.

Delicious refreshments and great conversation were enjoyed by all. A Chapter Board meeting was held immediately afterwards.
